— Lord Shaxx[1]

Redrix-3 is a Titan who became a popular champion of the Crucible in the aftermath of the Red War.

Biography[edit]

'How many of these tests are you going to make us take?'
— Redrix, questioning Lord Shaxx

While fighting in the Crucible on a fireteam with Randy, Redrix was forced to jump for cover behind a concrete barrier when Randy alerted the opposing fireteam to their position. He criticized his teammate for the taking a shot at an opponent without killing them and suggested they wait for the rest of their team to catch up before making a move. However, as their teammates were joining them, they and Redrix were dissolved by arc energy as Lord Shaxx came crashing into the middle of them with his Fist of Havoc. As their Ghosts restored them, Redrix, Randy, and the rest of the fireteam gathered in the crater Shaxx had created as the Crucible master gestured for them to gather. Redrix attempted to question Shaxx about his actions, but his voice box had been improperly restored when his Ghost brought him back, causing him to stutter. His Ghost quickly fixed the issue, allowing Redrix to ask how many tests Shaxx was about to make them take. He claimed this would be the only one and requested that Redrix and the others spread the word that the Crucible would now be ranked, and that all of them had just been the first ones seeded.[2]

In the new Crucible ranking system, Redrix quickly climbed the ranks and drew the attention of both Lord Shaxx and Banshee-44, who was crafting a new prototype weapon and was looking for inspiration and someone to wield it. Redrix's skill with a Pulse rifle inspired the gunsmith, who started receiving more orders for that weapon type due to Redrix's growing fame and skill with them. Informed of Banshee's interest by Shaxx, Redrix was set with a number of tasks to complete in the Crucible to prove to them that there was more to him than just flash and fame. As he set out to complete these tasks Redrix was given encouragement by Arcite 99-40, who told him that Shaxx believed in him, which was a rare thing. Once Redrix finished proving himself to Shaxx and Banshee, he was awarded with a pulse rifle named in his honor. He was congratulated by the Crucible master, but was also informed that he had been reborn in the fires of the Crucible into an icon for the denizens of the Last City and should let that guide his future. Sometime later, Banshee created a second pulse rifle as a follow up to that prototype.[1]

In addition to his fame in the Crucible, Redrix also became a regular participant in Gambit matches and thus became familiar with The Drifter. While escorting a train with a shipment of Tex Mechanica weapons alongside fellow TitanJoxer, they discovered the Drifter attempting to infiltrate the train and steal the weapons. Holding him at gunpoint, Redrix warned Joxer not to let the Drifter charm him. The Gambit overseer explained that he needed the weapons to create the prizes he handed out for gambit and asked to get them. Redrix and Joxer were concerned about what Zavala would think, but the Drifter questioned if the Vanguard really had power over them and offered to double how much their Motes of Darkness were worth in their next Gambit matches.[3] Accepting the bribe, Redrix and Joxer began reassembling the two Redjacks that the Drifter had disabled during his infiltration of the train to cover up his presence. Redrix began having second thoughts about the deal they made with the Drifter and told him to go to hell when he suggested the two Titans needed to take a load off. Warily eying the weapons the Drifter had stolen, Redrix watched as the Drifter sat down and began explaining to them that he had a larger plan in mind with Gambit. Asking them to think about how many Motes of Light they had gathered over their lifetimes, the Drifter pulled out a Mote of Darkness to show them and stated that they could do so much more than those of the Light and suggested that if they stuck with him he could show them what the Dark could really do.[4]

Redrix’s Broadsword is a Legendary Pulse Rifle that was released in Season 4 of Destiny 2. It’s the companion gun to the uber rare Redrix’s Claymore, which less than 1% of players have ever received.

While the Claymore is no longer obtainable, you can still obtain the Broadsword. Here are the exact steps you need to complete to unlock Redrix’s Broadsword.

Redrix’s Broadsword Quest Steps

Head over to Shaxx to initiate the quest, it’ll look like a ticket. Once you start it, you’ll have to complete the following quests in order.

1. Defeat 200 opponents with Pulse Rifle final blows in the Crucible.

These need to be kills, not just damage. You can use any Pulse Rifle, so you might as well equip the strongest one you have for PvP. Suggestions are the Graviton Lance, Three Graves, Go Figure, The Marine, Inaugural Address, and Blast Furnace.

2. Reach “Heroic” Valor Rank.

Try playing Rumble to rank up easier, as a Top 3 position will then count as a win, and Rumble games have a time limit of 8 minutes. Get on a win streak and you’ll earn bonus points to help you rank up faster.

3. Earn 75 Double Plays (Double Kills) in the Crucible.

Redrix Broadsword D2

Don’t worry too much about dealing the final blows. Even if you land shots on opponents and your teammates kill them, you’ll still receive double kill medals.

4. Defeat 150 opponents with precision final blows from any Pulse Rifle in the Crucible.

Use Pulse Rifles that are easiest for you to land headshots with. You probably already aim for the head anyway, so now is the time to put that practice to work.

5. Defeat 50 opponents with Arc final blows + 50 opponents with Solar final blows + 50 opponents with Void final blows in the Crucible.

You can set your loadout to match these elements and get kills with any weapon, whether it be through guns, grenades, or supers.

6. Complete 25 Crucible matches in Quickplay + 25 Crucible matches in Competitive + 25 Crucible matches in Rumble.

You don’t actually have to win these matches, just complete them.

7. Complete 20 Crucible Bounties.

Shaxx offers 5 bounties a day, so before you reach this step start saving completed bounties so you don’t have to wait several days to complete this step.

8. Reset your Valor rank 5 times in one season.

All your grinding so far will contribute to this quest. Each reset requires at least 2,000 Valor Points, so you’ll need to accumulate a total of 10,000 Valor Points. Try to hit 5x win streaks as much as possible to speed things up.

9. Return to Lord Shaxx and receive Redrix’s Broadsword.

Congrats, you’ve now completed all of the steps to obtain Redrix’s Broadsword!

Redrix’s Broadsword Stats

Redrix’s Broadsword has strong baseline stats. But what really makes the gun so effective is its perks. Outlaw combined with Desperado ramps up the gun’s DPS significantly. How good the gun is depends a lot on how consistently you can proc this.

Redrix Broadsword God Roll

In terms of good rolls for the Broadsword, you want to try for Arrowhead Break, Chambered Compensator, Extended Barrel, and Ricochet Rounds.

Is Redrix’s Broadsword Still Worth the Grind?

After reading this, you might be wondering if Redrix’s Broadsword is really worth it to obtain. Completing Redrix’s Broadsword quest isn’t necessarily difficult, but it is certainly time consuming and involves numerous steps.

Depending on your PvP ability, it can take you anywhere from a couple weeks to months to finish if you play for a few hours every day.

While the Broadsword was one of the strongest weapons in the game on release, in the current meta it’s fallen off compared to newer pulse rifles like Blast Furnace, Go Figure, and Bygones.

In terms of PvP, the Broadsword simply isn’t as highly rated as other Pinnacle Weapons now.

However, the Broadsword still remains as one of the best PvE weapons in Destiny 2. It has very high DPS which is great for clearing additional enemies, and it can shred through Invader enemies as well. Proccing Desperado is also a lot easier on mobs.

If you’re looking at it from a pure PvP perspective, you can probably skip the quest. However, if you’re someone who likes to complete collections and does a fair amount of PvE, completing the quest should be worth your time.

Keep in mind that the meta will inevitably change over time. Redrix’s Broadsword may very well be an all-around S-Tier weapon again, especially if it receives some buffs.

So if you’re not in a rush, you can simply start the quest and just passively complete it over time.

Protip: If you do start Redrix’s Broadsword quest, start Luna’s Howl quest at the same time, as many of the steps overlap. You can complete both around the same time and kill two birds with one stone.
